About charity trustees

Trustees are the people who lead the Charity and decide how it is run. Being a Trustee means making decisions that will impact on people’s lives and making a difference to your local community.

Trustees use their skills and experience to support their Charities, helping them achieve their aims. Trustees also often learn new skills during their time on the board.

Their 6 main duties are:

- Ensure your Charity is carrying out its purposes for the benefit of the public

- Comply with your Charities Governing document and the Law

- Act in your Charitie's best interest

- Manage your Charities resources responsibly

- Act with responable care and skill

- Ensure your Charity is accountable

Shamal Biswas - Shamal is a Local Councillor for the Acklam Ward of Middlesbrough.  He is a successful  business man who has been involved in the restaurant trade for over 30 years.  Shamal is a strong believer in humanity, giving unprecedented love and care to others whilst expecting nothing in return. He is happiest when he is able to help others and has been a fantastic support to the Network for years.

Ian Dodds - In terms of my professional life - I recently took retirement from the Cabinet Office after a career in the Civil Service. I have worked to support the voluntary & community sector across a range of programmes including neighbourhood renewal and European funding programmes. I am still very passionate about the role of the voluntary sector and volunteers with a number of organisations across the North East.

My likes outside my professional work include gardening, travel, dancing - ballroom, latin, Jive and collecting pewter miniatures.

Dave Turton - I have worked for Cleveland Fire Brigade since 1993, joining as a Retained Firefighter at Yarm Station. I am currently Head of Community Safety, with responsibility for developing the Brigade’s Safety strategies, delivering our Commissioned Services to young people, and both internal and external communications.

I am married with 2 daughters, and still enjoy playing 5-a-side football twice a week, the odd game of cricket, walking with our family dog Hugo and gardening.
